Acebeam X45ii Eclipse rechargeable LED flashlight. 18000 lumen 622 metre torch. Truly turns night into day! Reviews here.

Acebeam's upgraded 18,000 lumen X45ii Eclipse delivers an avalanche of light over the length of two rugby fields – from a surprisingly compact and affordable torch!

First responders (in any kind of uniform) will love this light – the 9,000 lumen and 18,000 lumen ("turbo" and "turbo max") settings are perfect for spotting suspects/ victims/ evidence/ faults while "high" will deliver a consistent 4,000 lumens for well over an hour.

The 1,500 lumen "mid" level runs for 3.5 hours and the 500 lumen "low" for 10 hours – just what you need to supervise a team of firefighters or a repair crew all night. There's even a 3 lumen "firefly" mode to find your way around without spoiling your night vision.

On "turbo max" the Eclipse is like turning on all the lights on a Dakar Rally vehicle – it simply obliterates the night. This is as much light as any farmer, neighbourhood-watch patroller, 4x4 enthusiast or sailor could possibly want – for the rest of us it will satisfy any application we can think of, brilliantly!

The launch of the X45 was like throwing a large rock into the waters of the global flashlight pond, creating a big splash and huge waves. And it's not just about lumens – there's lots of chatter on the forums about run-times, brightness levels, beam profiles, battery compatibility and more.

Suffice it to say that, if you like to be on the winning side of an argument, this is the torch for you!

Four meaty Cree XHP70.2 emitters share a state-of-the-art 50mm clear reflector to deliver a massive hot-spot over 622 ANSI-metres or 197 real-world metres. These LEDs are powered by four high-drain 18650 rechargeable batteries through cutting-edge electronics built into a remarkably compact and rugged package.

The X45 can be supplied with a matched set of four unprotected 2,500mAh batteries or the latest and greatest 3,000mAh IMR "super Li-Ions", either of which will support the high currents needed by this light volcano (just choose your preferred cells from the drop-down menu below).

External charging means you can carry a spare set of batteries for extended outings, or charge one set while you're using the torch elsewhere. My four-channel Lii-402 charger not only works with any USB adapter from mains or in a car, but can also be used as a powerbank to charge your cellphone or other device.

There's a lot more than could be said about this extraordinary light, such as its IPX8 waterproofing, impact resistance, battery-status light, secure tail-standing capability, retractible lanyard anchor, supplied holster, spare o-rings and lanyard, 5-year warranty and, most importantly, that feeling of quality that comes with all Acebeam torches.

But what you really need to know is you will almost certainly have the brightest torch at the braai – finish en klaar!
