My Aussie grandson loved his Lighthouse! There was a tussle between him and my feisty grand-daughter over who would get to use it when we went to the Umfolozi Game Reserve – they’d never seen anything like it and were amazed we get such good stuff here. I mean really! Anne Pohl, Durban North

As a torch the Lighthouse is relatively small and lightweight but boy does it pack a punch! It has four levels of brightness – Level 1 would be useful if you arrive late at a cinema and need to navigate to your seat in the dark, while Levels 2 and 3 are perfect for loadshedding. Bouncing the Level 2 beam off the ceiling lights up a room while Level 3 gives enough light to read or play a board game. Level 4 has the most amazingly bright beam – in a small room it feels like sunlight – but it cannot be used at this level for more than a few minutes as it gets very hot. However the real surprise of the Lighthouse is the lantern feature! On Levels 2 and 3 it provides a very efficient ambient light – if you're about to have a romantic dinner and have run out of candles this lantern will step into the breach without any problems!! A lanyard and magnetic tailcap come standard with the torch – the lanyard enables you to hang the torch from a horizontal tent pole if you're camping, and the magnetic cap allows you to attach the light to any metal surface. The switch is deactivated by either an electronic lockout or a mechanical lockout. I didn't find the electronic lockout to be that user friendly so I prefer the mechanical lockout (unscrewing the tailcap by half a turn). I have yet to test the Lighthouse in a game reserve and will be doing that in a couple of months’ time. Based on my observations, this torch is a “pocket rocket” and really good value for the purchase price. Tony Newell, Bedfordview, JHB
